Does a trader trade differently in the summer? Typically during summertime trading the volume in the market tends to dry up. As a trader you want volume because if there is no volume there is no one to take the other side of your trade. Here’s how I recommend trading in the summer.
As a trader you don’t always need to be in a trade. Actually, a large part of trading intraday is just waiting and watching for your setups to come your way so you can jump on the next move.
The SOH Setp-Up
In the summer with less volume there tends to be less action. But trading does not mean you’re always in a position. A lot of trading is just what I call, “Sitting on Hands” (SOH). Instead of surfing the internet and not focusing on what’s going on in the market I use this time to gather data. I gather data so I can sharpen my edge for the future trades I will be taking. I tell the traders I coach to focus on trading less and making more. Look for quality setups that are time tested and have follow through. It’s okay to sit out and just observe until a setup fits your plan of action.
