“I get asked often ‘do you trade ETF’s?” Or “does your strategies work on ETF’s?”

The answer is yes to both. I trade ETF’s  all of the time. I think they are a great tool to trade many varieties of instruments, groupings, sectors and much more.

In this article, I am simply going to provide you with a list of ETF’s that I personally love to trade, analyze and profit from. I find them to be disciplined both on the long term and short term, great for options, owning shares and doing covered calls, day trading credit spreads; you name it. These ETF’s are good for any type of trader or experience level.

  1. SPY – literally the most popular, liquid and active ETF on the face of the planet.
  2. XLE – tracking the entire energy sector? Sure, why not.
  3. TLT – bonds are boring. But this ETF isn’t.
  4. DIA – this beast is a great way to trade that illusive Dow Jones you always here about on TV.
  5. QQQ – ditto above. The qqq’s as they are called, a great way to trade the nasdaq.
  6. GLD – has been one of my favorites for a long time. And really SLV too. I like these ETF’s mainly for 5+ week trades
  7. XLV – healthcare sector. This one can be fun.
  8. XLU –  this utilities sector ETF can be a solid one for your longer term portfolio.
  9. XLF – You have to have financials in here right? Well, this ETF isn’t rife with volatility as most financials often are. It’s a great one to trade.

That about wraps up my favorite 9 ETF’s. Honestly, there are gobbles more ETF’s out there. Thousands in fact. But you don’t specifically need to overwhelm yourself will all of the choices and opportunities out there. Remember, you can only eat at one restaurant at a time, or drive one vehicle at a time. Being content and keeping it simple is often a less stressful path to finding your profitable niche as a trader.
