This market signal is shaping up to be a monumental flop with the Dow futures off nearly 260 points. Should we open lower and sell off throughout the day look for my timing signal to reverse. It appears that the lack of strength and individual breakouts is proving to be an even bigger indicator of continued weakness than I originally thought.

Miners Are On A Tear

So far my market timing signal this cycle isn’t off to a great start with 2 down days and to be honest I’m inclined to think further losses are in store. However it remains a buy and I did pick up a rather large position in SPY on Friday on the pullback. It wasn’t the easiest of trades to hold over the long weekend but sometimes the hardest trades are the ones that yield you great profits.

Two Chart Views on Bonds Recent Breakout

Bonds hit a new all time high on Friday but I’m not very bullish on the chart for a number of reasons.

It’s more of an upward channel than a breakout in my book
Volume is on a major decline
ADX is moving lower indicating the trend is weakening
Negative divergence on the RSI

Today’s move was unfortunate because I covered my shorts yesterday, but the pieces are falling in place for more gains per my timing signal. About the only thing that could derail further gains is the jobs number tomorrow.

As much as it defies logic my timing signal has switched and it is now prudent to close your shorts and begin buying stocks, preferably those that are breaking out to new highs. The good thing is that there are a few to pick from and unless more start to show up on my scans we won’t have a very long list to buy and get caught holding in the event this market whipsaws and heads lower.

2600 – Line in the Sand?

This level has been a significant area of support and resistance in the past and we nearly tagged it today. Maybe one more push up before it reverses? There are some good things going on in the markets in regards to my timing signal, but we need to take out this area with conviction to prove the bulls really do have the edge and this isn’t some sort of trap.

Euro Approaching A Major Top

The Euro looks as if it’s about to move lower from current levels. When you step back and look at the big picture it’s been making a wave of lower highs and lower lows since the 08′ top and looks to be near the upper range of the downward channel. A break below $140 could send this significantly lower.

However, if this does rally and break above the upper trend line with good volume I would expect this to challenge it’s old highs from 2008. This is the more unlikely scenario, but it’s always ...
