Columbus Day - half-holidays not worth half the effort

Today, October 12th is Columbus Day.  With no disrespect to Italian-Americans or anyone else who is celebrating today, Columbus Day is what I call a half-holiday in that the banks are closed, several important markets are closed (currency futures and interest rate futures), but the NYSE and stock index futures are open.

My advice is to skip trading today and join me enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

As for the next day to take off, your time would be best spent on 11-11 watching a Veterans Day Parade.
