Covered Put

A bearish trading strategy invollving the writing of put options while shorting an e quivalent amount of the underlying stock.

Corporate Bond

A bond issued by a corporation to raise financing.

Cash Dividend

A cash distribution to the shareholders of a corporation, based on profitability and board of directors decisions.


A commodity is any good that is identical from any producer, where producers engage in price competition. They are used in the production of other goods or services.

Chartered Market Technician

A designation granted by the Market Technician Association to individuals who have demonstrated mastery of technical market analysis via a series of three exams.

Candlestick Chart

A different price chart format display of the high, low, open and closing prices which resemble candlesticks -- wide vertical bars with thin lines that extend above and below.


A financial institution that is responsible for protecting a client's financial assets to mimize risk of theft or loss. 

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

A form of bankruptcy protection from creditors granted to individuals or companies that requires liquidation of certain assets to pay debt.

Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

A form of bankruptcy that mandates a reorganization of a debtor's business assets and operations (also referred to as "restructuring").

Close End Fund

A fund with a finite amount of share capital -- additional shares cannot be issued or redeemed based on fluctuating demand.

Central Bank

A government or pseudo-government organization that manage a country's monetary policy.

Chikou Span

A lagging technical indicator which is an element of theIchimoku Kinko Hyo indicator that plots price movement 26 periods behind the most recent closing price.


A market analysis approach that uses visual statistical data of securities prices as a decision support tool in making trades based on price trend.

Commodity Channel Index

A momentum oscillator designed by Donald Lambert that identifies cycle turns in commodities markets.

Condor Spread

A neutral options trading strategy similar to a Butterfly Spread, comprised of four contracts, each transacted at different strike prices with the same expiration date. 


A period of time where a security trades below Resistance or above Support.

Cup and Handle

A price chart continuation pattern that identifies a Consolidation period followed by a Breakout.

Corrective Wave

A principle of Elliott Wave Theory, it's a set of security price movements that counter the main prevailing trend.

Chapter 13

A re-payment plan for debtor's to settle their debts through installments to their creditors.

Consumer Price Index

A statistical measure of retail price changes, derived from a weighted average of prices for segments of consumer goods and services such as healthcare, transportation, and food.
