Down Volume

Signifies when a stock's volume closes at a price lower than that of the previous day's close.

Double Top

A price chart pattern that resembles a 'M', it identifies a peak of a security's price, followed by a drop, then a rebound back to the same level as that of the original peak.

Double Bottom

A price chart pattern that resembles a 'W', it identifies a drop of a security's price, followed by a rebound, then a drop back to the same level as that of the original drop.

Doji

A frequent pattern found in Candlestick price charts, where an opening and closing price for a price bar are nearly identical.

Distribution Line

A predictive technical indicator that evaluates increasing trade volume as a forecast of increasing stock prices.

Displaced Moving Average

A technical indicator that shifts the plotting of a Simple Moving Average by a specific period, to the left or right of where the SMA would ordinarily plot.

Directional Movement Index

A technical indicator designed by J. Welles Wilder that identifies trend in financial instruments.

Detrend

To remove the prevalent tendency of a segment of statistical data relative to time.

Descending Triangle

A chart pattern for a security that is defined by the use of two Trendlines on either side of a series of high and low prices that looks similar to a triangle pointed to the right.

Descending Bottoms

A technical chart pattern where each lowest valley is lower than the previous occurrence.

Descending Tops

A technical chart pattern where each highest peak is lower than the previous occurrence.

Derivative Pricing Model

A method that analyzes several factors to propose the fair price of a futures or options contract. The best-known example is the Black-Scholes Option Pricing Model.

Demand Index

A decision support tool designed by James Sibbit that reflects the buying and selling power of markets through formulas based on volume and price ratios.

Declining Volume

The number of stock shares traded for a given day where prices fell.

Declining Issues

An informal reference for stocks whose prices have fallen over a period of time.

Dark Cloud Cover

A Candlestick Chart pattern that signals a bearish trend, where a black candlestick forms just after a long white Candlestick.

Daily Chart

A visual display of a financial instrument's price activity in intervals of one day.

Cup and Handle

A price chart continuation pattern that identifies a Consolidation period followed by a Breakout.

Crossover

An occurance of a security's price crossing a boundary thought to be Bullish or Bearish.

Cumulative Volume Index (CVI)

A technical indicator that tracks the movement of money into and out of the market for a given time frame.
