William Gibson, a research analyst with 30 years experience, publishes Gibson’s Technical Strategist at mrmkt@wordpress.com, a market-timing letter utilizing exchange traded funds for planned, deliberate speculation. On the investment side, he focuses on idea-oriented special situations for professional investors.
Bill began his research career in 1976 at San Francisco Investment following growth companies across industry lines. Between 1979 and 1981, he provided on-air stock market updates for the Woodruff-Pacific Network, 27-channel radio network on the west coast. He also created and co-hosted The Investment Connection, a weekly television show on cable television in San Francisco and Marin County.
Through the 1980s Bill spent three years at Davis, Skaggs and Shearson Lehman as a generalist and six years as a Senior Analyst covering special situations for Sutro & Co. He was also Sutro’s technical analyst. Bill has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 1985.
Bill moved to Santa Barbara 1991 and covered emerging growth stocks for nine years as a senior analyst for Cruttenden Roth, the most active underwriter in Southern California during that period. He returned to San Francisco in 2000 as a Managing Director and Senior Analyst for three years in charge of Small Cap Growth for Banc of America Securities.
Bill joined Nollenberger Capital Partners as a Managing Director and Senior Analyst from September 2003 through June 2009. He is currently managing director, research for Wailuku Capital Advisors, a San Francisco-based firm providing consulting research for institutional investors.
Mr. Gibson is a member of the San Francisco Society of Security Analysts and Technical Securities Analyst Association of San Francisco. He graduated with a BA and high honors from San Diego State in 1973 and has been married since 1983. Bill is an avid reader who enjoys city walks, country hikes, bicycling and occasional cultural events his wife cons him into. His passion is the stock market.
