Looking for trader voices for a story on online fees/commissions

Hello all- I'm a Chicago-based financial writer working on a story for Stocks, Futures and Options Magazine about how the trading fee/commission structure varies across online brokers in stocks, forex and futures. I'm trying to answer a few fundamental questions:

*Why is it important for a retail day-trader to carefully consider and compare fees/commissions when looking for an online broker?

*What can a new trader expect, and what do they need to know when it comes to fees?

Would anyone care to share a few thoughts? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks-
