Proxy

A designated agent authorized to take legal action on behalf of another party. Often used by shareholders to transfer voting rights to a member of company management to represent the shareholder’s interests at a shareholders’ meeting.

Pullback

A prevalent retracement in a trending market before continuing in the same direction.

Put

A type of option contract that provides the holder the right to to sell a specified amount of an underlying asset at a set price within a specific time period.

Quantitative Analysis

A method of investing where decisions are based upon analysis of measurable statistics through complex mathematical formulas calculated programmatically by computers.

Quarterly Report

A collection of financial metrics and operations information issued by a company every 3 months.

Rally

Reflects increasing buyer demand where a security’s price rises rapidly within a given period of time

Range

The difference between the high and low trading price for a financial instrument.

Rate of Return

The gain or loss realized by an investor over a perod of time, expressed as a percentage of the total investment.

Record Date

The company issuing stock defines a specific date when an investor must own shares to be recognized as "Shareholders of Record" and thus eligible to participate in corporate events and dividend distribution.

Red Candlestick

An attribute of Candlestick bar chart where a filled price bar is "painted" red when the closing price of the bar is lower than the day’s opening price.
