The S&P 500 Composite Index (SPX) rose for the first time in 3 trading days on Wednesday, helped by an accommodative Fed. Technically, it is not clear whether the short-term price pullback that started on 12/8/14 is over. Seasonal tendencies are bullish for the last half of December, but the short-term trend seems less certain. Longer term, SPX closed above all previous closing prices on Friday 12/5/14, reconfirming its preexisting 5.8-year-old uptrend.

NYSE total volume eased slightly lower to a level 49% above its 200-day SMA. Volume can provide insights that are not available from the majority of indicators, which are based on price.
