Commercial Building Automation Set to Take Off

The following article on Commercial Integrator (written by Stephen Castle) Caught my eye because the three companies Crestron, AMX and Lutron listed in the first paragraph and all are Sierra Monitor Corporation (SRMC) key customers/partners.

“You’re an established commercial integrator.  You’re a master of audio/video systems in boardrooms and conference rooms. You’re a go-to telepresence and videoconferencing solutions provider. You know your way around the Crestron, Lutron and AMX systems of the world. So what’s the next big thing?

It looks like commercial building automation. And it’s a market that’s set to take off, thanks in large part to corporate, government and institutional interest in energy efficiency that can save millions of dollars in operational costs. In addition, the costs of sensors has come down as their quality has gone up. These factors and more point to a burgeoning market for commercial building automation. “

Sierra Monitor Corporation designs and develops hazardous gas monitoring devices for the protection of personnel and facilities in industrial work places. Through its subsidiary FieldServer Technologies the firm has branched into protocol translation technology, which enables machine to machine (M2M) communication in energy and building automation applications. This high growth business should complement the gas detection business, while not sacrificing market or margins. FieldServer should see a tailwind as a result of the push toward zero net energy building designs.
