5 Ways To Save Money Christmas Shopping This Year

It’s just 1 week before Christmas and you are still searching for the best deals for your loved ones. Don’t fret! There is still time to save money on your Christmas purchases. Just follow these 5 simple steps before heading to your local mall and you will save money this holiday season.

1. Shop at online retailers.

Why run to the stores when you can shop from the comfort of your own home? Take advantage of free shipping deals that most online retailers are offering. It’s easy to visit several different websites and comparison shop. I always start with sites like Amazon and compare prices from there. It’s not too late to order a Christmas gift online and still get it before Christmas day.

2. Visit comparison shopping websites.

Sites like pricegrabber, shopzilla, and Google Shopping allow you to compare products from a bunch of different retailers in order to find the best deal for your money. Be sure to compare apples to apples. Make sure that the product specifications, models, size, and descriptions are the same. It doesn’t help to compare a 42 inch flat screen 1080i with 3D to a 27 inch 720i plasma TV.  it doesn’t mean that both aren’t good televisions, just completely different products.

3. Hit the discount stores.

Your best deals at brick and mortar locations are typically going to come from stores like Walmart, Kmart, and Sears. Discount retailers compete against each other to earn your business. Use their rivalries to your advantage. If you get a low price from Walmart, take it to Kmart and see if they will beat it. Most of the big box retailers are doing price matching this holiday season.

4. Print your coupons.

That’s right! Coupons are in style again. Don’t go rummaging through the trash looking for newspaper coupons. Just get online and start printing. But there are also online sites that can help you save money like Coupon Mountain, Coupons.com and CouponMom. These sites offer coupons for just about any product that you are looking to save money on. Compare coupons from different retailers until you find the one giving the biggest discount on your shopping needs. You just enter your zip code and start saving.

5. Haggle, haggle, haggle.

Remember that the price is always negotiable. You as the consumer have tremendous buying power. If you don’t get the deal that you want, take your business elsewhere. You can often get a lower price on an item just by asking for it. The higher the cost, the more wiggle room the store has. Stores like hhgregg are great because they empower their sales associates to negotiate with customers. So, what are you waiting for? Get in the store and start haggling.

Happy Christmas Shopping!
