77 in a row

Congratulations to the UConn Women’s basketball team that won its’ 77 straight game and their second straight season winning the national championship in an undefeated season. This is in thin atmosphere- doesn’t take long to call the role of teams that have accomplished this feat.

In 1968, UCLA had a 69 game win streak stopped mid-season by Elvin Hayes and the Houston Cougars and went on to win the national championship.

In 1973, UCLA had an 88 game win streak broken by Notre Dame, coached by Digger Phelps and starring John Shumate and went on to win the title that season as well.

In 1983-1984, White Bear LakeHigh School finished two straight unbeaten seasons with state championships but lost their opener the next season. Generally, this is what happens..

What does this have to do with markets? Doesn’t it seem like they have gone up 77 days in a row? Question is-what next.

The S&P looks like it still has room to run-another 25+

Earnings start next week with Alcoa which just had a downgrade.

The low volume that has been in place during the long rise makes one wonder about the foundation of this market.

We’ll soon find out. I have seen projections that range from S&P running to 1300-1400 by year end and, on the other extreme, testing the March lows. It is all in where you start and what technique you use.

The VIX says its’ naptime and 77 more wins are in the offing. It might be wise to show up every and play-it ain’t that easy!
