Emerson Electric Co. (EMR), though its Network Power business, has launched its next generation strategic data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solution. The new system, Avocent Data Center Planner, is Emerson’s latest addition to its DCIM portfolio.

The Avocent Data Center Planner facilitates the IT managers to manage the rapidly changing and complex data center environment both holistically and efficiently. Customers can administer the physical infrastructure of a data center and also compute hardware and software and communications technologies.

Avocent Corporation was acquired by Emerson in December 2009 as an addition to its Network Power business. Avocent’s technologies and solutions provide additional visibility into the data center infrastructure, which strengthens Emerson Network Power’s infrastructure management capabilities and provides data center managers better control of energy consumption, IT operations and costs. The company also acquired Aperture in February 2008 to expand its DCIM portfolio.

Emerson continues to invest in breakthrough technologies, expand its geographic presence and improve the cost structure of the business, both organically and through acquisitions. We anticipate that the emerging markets will continue to outperform mature markets and would represent a significant portion of the company’s total sales. Furthermore, the emerging markets are expected to recover faster compared with the U.S. and Europe.

However, as a major portion of the company’s activity is outside the US, it is susceptible to disrupted production, which would delay shipment. Further, operating results of Emerson depends on continued successful research, development and marketing of new or improved products and services.

Based in St. Louis, Missouri, Emerson Electric Co. is a diversified global manufacturing and technology company.  It offers a wide range of products and services in the areas of process management, climate technologies, network power, storage solutions, professional tools, appliance solutions, motor technologies, and industrial automation. Major competitors of Emerson are ABB Ltd. (ABB), General Electric Co. (GE) and Hitachi Ltd. (HIT).

We currently maintain our Neutral recommendation on Emerson, with a Zacks #3 Rank (Hold recommendation) over the next one-to-three months.
