Alere Health LLC, a provider of personal health support solutions and a division of Alere Inc. (ALR), recently announced its collaboration agreement with AirStrip Technologies, a developer of mobile medical software services.
Under the deal, Alere will be utilizing AirStrip Technologies’ next-generation remote patient monitoring applications that deliver important information directly to a mobile equipment, including the latest smartphones. From September 1, 2010, onward, Alere, through its Women & Children’s Health division, will sell its flagship mobile medical software “AirStrip OB” to its client base. Alere will also market and promote AirStrip OB to U.S.-based physicians or hospitals, and serve as a liaison for users of AirStrip solutions.
It is anticipated that the state-of-the-art AirStrip OB will be useful as the software transmits vital patient data, including fetal heart beat and maternal contraction, in real time, directly from the hospital floor to the medical practitioner’s mobile equipment. For its part, AirStrip Technologies appreciates this partnership given Alere’s track-record of improving results for pregnant women. Alere, which aided over 225,000 pregnancies in 2009, believes that its collaboration with AirStrip Technologies will further enable it to expand into frontier areas of in-patient management.
The AirStrip OB has received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration and is in compliance with The Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Rule. It is presently being utilized by US-based obstetricians, and is improving communication between medical practitioners, thereby preventing medical errors and consequent injury to patients in hospitals.
Alere Health is the health management services arm of the Waltham-based Alere Inc. (formerly Inverness Medical Innovations), which is a leader in point-of-care (near patient) diagnostics and health management services. San Antonio-based AirStrip Technologies develops mobile medical software applications to provide greater patient safety.
