The Consumer Confidence Index decreased to 52.9 (1985=100) in May after increasing to 62.7 in May from 57.7 in April. This is the first such decline after three consecutive monthly increases. The index was expected to increase with the consensus at 62.6. The Present Situation Index decreased to 25.5 from 29.8 last month. The Expectations Index declined to 71.2 from 84.6 in May. Consumers concerns about current market conditions were less favorable and the short-term outlook which had improved significantly last month, turned more pessimistic In June.
