Initial Claims decreased to 457,000, for the week ending 06/19, lower than the expected decrease to 463,000, after increasing to 476,000, the revised level for the previous week. The 4-week moving average decreased to 462,750, from the previous week’s revised average of 464,250. Seasonally adjusted insured unemployment from the prior week, ending on 06/12, was 4,548,000, a decrease of 45,000 from the preceding week’s revised level of 4,593,000. Seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate from the week ending on 06/12, was 3.5%, a decrease of 0.1% from the previous week’s unrevised figure of 3.6%.

Durable Orders decreased by 1.1% or $2.2 billion, during May to $192.0 billion, beating the expected 0.5% decrease. This was the first time the figure decreased in six months, after a 3% increase in April, revised upwards from 2.9%. Machinery had the largest increase, of 5.6%, after decreasing by 5.5% in April. Transportation equipment had the largest decrease of 6.9% in May, after increasing by 15.4% in April. A decline of 29.6% in orders for civilian aircraft was the primary cause for the overall decline.
