Construction Spending increased by 2.7% to $869.1 billion during April, higher than the expected 0.2% increase, after rising by 0.4% in March, revised from an increase of 0.2%. Year over year, construction spending had declined by 10.5% from the April 2009 estimate of $971.4 billion.
 
The ISM Manufacturing Index decreased to 59.7 in May, following an increase to 60.4 in April from the 59.6 level in March. The index indicated growth for the 13th consecutive month in the overall economy, as well as expansion in the manufacturing sector for the 10th consecutive month.
