Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI) has officially launched its “On Demand Online” service in Canada to provide Internet video entertainment. On Demand Online is basically a broadband video service that will enable pay-TV subscribers to watch premium cable programming online over broadband networks. At the end of the first quarter of 2010, Rogers had around 2.296 million of cable TV subscribers.
 
Preference for video-on-demand (watching movie on the Internet) has increased significantly among customers. In addition, demand for online gaming and downloading of various multimedia applications has also gone up. Rogers will offer up to 1,000 hours of content through almost 50 broadcast and cable programming partners.
 
With On Demand Online, the cable TV subscribers will have access to any entertainment content developers library on his/her computer, notebook and mobile handset through an easy and quick authentication system that will link their pay-TV subscriptions to watch cable programming using a broadband connection.
 
Any customer with a Rogers account can visit rogersondemand.com and register to experience Rogers “On Demand Online” content for free from any streaming Internet connection within Canada.
 
In recent times, on demand online (TV Everywhere) business model is gaining popularity among the North American cable MSOs. Online TV and video watching is gaining tremendous popularity in Canada. Shaw Communications Inc. (SJR), the closest rival of Rogers is also planning to introduce on-demand video services.
