Here are highlights from Monday’s Analyst Blog:

TriQuint Launches New Solutions

TriQuint (TQNT) recently announced that it would launch new solutions for cable systems, microwave radio and optical networks to enable network operators meet the growing demand for broadband services more efficiently and economically.

Management stated that network operators expect to see substantial increases in radio, optical and cable network traffic because of the growing popularity of home and mobile data applications. Operators are looking for cost effective ways to expand capacity while lowering operational expenses.

Radio products and cable infrastructure are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10% through 2013. Fiber optic IC market CAGR is expected to double during this period and emerging 40Gb/s segment should lead growth with a projected 78% CAGR. Hence, TriQuint expects to place itself in a dominant position with new solutions to capitalize on the massive growth potential.

Based in Hillsboro, OR, TriQuint is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of semiconductor communication integrated circuits (ICs) and specifically targets the wireless handset segment, infrastructure networks and defense markets.

TriQuint earlier signed an agreement with Huawei to supply driver amplifiers and related products for new optical transport systems. TriQuint will also work closely with Huawei to develop higher speed and wider bandwidth network solutions with lower power consumption for operators worldwide.

TriQuint Semiconductor recently announced the acquisition of TriAccess Technologies. TriAccess is a leading provider of Cable TV and Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) integrated circuits for the amplification of high-quality multimedia content.

With the economy showing signs of recovery, we expect capital spending to pick up in the second half of 2009.

Management had earlier provided a strong forecast for the second half of 2009 as it foresees a sustained demand for handset and defense products along with an eventual recovery in the networks market. Inventory correction in the handset segment is almost done.

TriQuint is pitted against players like Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), ANADIGICS Inc. (ANAD) and RF Micro Devices (RFMD). It remains to be seen how it fares and wins market share as the economy picks up.

Becton Receives FDA Approval

Becton, Dickinson and Co. (BDX) announced that it received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to market its blood collection device, BD Vacutainer Rapid Serum Tube, in the U.S. Unlike standard tubes, the Serum tubes are ready for analysis in five minutes.

The Serum tube contains a gel additive that speeds up the clotting process, thereby enabling the tube to be put in a centrifuge for analysis five minutes after it is filled. On the other hand, standard tubes require 30 minutes of clotting before they are ready for use.

The new approval would boost demand for Serum tubes that will eventually drive revenues for the BD Diagnostics segment. BD Diagnostics is one of the three Becton’s operating segments that manufacture Serum tubes. Becton’s other two operating segments are: BD Medical and BD Biosciences.
