Forexpros – ign investors’ acquisitions of Canadian securities rose significantly more-than-expected in April, following a divestment in the previous month, official data showed on Monday.

In a report, Statistics Canada said that foreign investment rose to a seasonally adjusted CAD10.16 billion in April, blowing past expectations of CAD5.0 billion.

The previous month’s figure was revised to net sales of CAD2.40 billion from previously reported sales of CAD2.08 billion.

Non-resident investors acquired CAD10.2 billion of Canadian securities in April, while Canadian investors’ holdings of foreign securities declined CAD2.7 billion, predominantly in bonds.

Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar held on to losses against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD gaining 0.55% to hit 1.0270.
