Forexpros – Canada’s trade surplus held steady in March, unchanged from the previous month as exports edged down 0.4% and imports decreased 0.6%, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that Canada’ trade surplus totaled CAD0.3 billion in March, below expectations for a surplus of CAD1.0 billion.
Canada’s trade surplus for February was revised up to CAD0.3 billion, from a previously reported CAD0.29 billion.
Canada’s exports edged down 0.4% to CAD39.5 billion in March, as prices fell 1.3%. Imports decreased 0.6% to CAD39.1 billion, as prices fell 2.3%.
Following the release of the data, the Canadian dollar added to gains against its U.S. counterpart, with USD/CAD slumping 0.41% to trade at 0.9985.
