This piece, which was originally posted in August 2006, takes on added significance given events in Japan where worldwide links in the just-in-time supply chain are breaking down. Essentially, nothing has changed. In fact, we appear to be more vulnerable to disruptions than ever before. The only thing (surprisingly) that seems no longer applicable is my worry about North American natural gas supplies.
