Okay, so it was bound to happen. Some of the political thinking I have been discussing has shown up. The “all caps” are the writers yelling at me in the parlance of “texting,” I assume.
SIR, I HAVE READ YOUR COLUMN AND MUST CONCLUDE THAT YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT!!!!! MUST OUR COUNTRY SPEND ITSELF INTO OBLIVION JUST TO KEEP YOU FRAUDSTERS ON WALL STREET HAPPY???
WELL Sir, you are not the first person to call me an idiot, just so you know. As well, I am not on Wall Street. I live in beautiful, mostly sunny California, and “FRAUDSTER” hardly describes my ethical imperatives.
As to your “happy” question … I don’t seek happiness; I seek contentment. But if I did seek happiness, most likely I would not find it if our country “did spend itself into oblivion.” In fact, if you have been following me, you should know that I have and do advocate spending cuts, as well as tax reform. I would love to see a value-added tax (VAT), or a flat tax, or a national sales tax. In lieu of any of these, I would like to see most “write offs’ for corporate and personal taxpayers abolished. No, I don’ think we should abolish the IRS, the Dept. of Education, or The EPA, but haircuts would be nice. I also think the military/industrial/security complex is too big, too costly, and too dangerous to us as citizens. Healthy cuts to this “money eater” would help bring our budget into line.
I also support serious reformation of Social Security and Medicare, such as gradually raising the retirement age for both, and raising the current cap that excludes all money made past $106,000 from social security taxation. Medicare would also benefit nicely if we eliminated it as a “senior” entitlement and opened it up to everyone who wanted to pay in (say $200 a month). I guess you call that a “public option,” which leads to the next angry person.
Are you not aware of the fact that the people plotting and executing the destruction of this country are alive and well in the White House. All you have to do is check the resumes (Google them) of the people in places of actual power and you will see that they are all at least socialists and mostly communist. ALL OF THEM have written, spoken and advocated the destruction of this country by FUNDEMENTALLY CHANGING IT. You must be of like ilk or one of the stupidest people on the planet.
Well, that is not the first time anyone has called me stupid either, but it may be the first time someone suggested I was the stupidest person on the planet. Actually, in moments here and there, I do think that about myself. Touché sir.
Other than that, I really don’t have much to say about your theory. I guess now that Google is the preeminent source of fact on this planet, what you say must be true. Oh wait! Recently, documents appeared on the Internet to prove President Obama was born in Kenya, President Bush was behind 9/11, and aliens (really illegal aliens) crash landed in Roswell New Mexico. Did I mention the world is coming to an end this next week on May 21?
Folks, as I have said, we have balanced out-of-whack budgets before without draconian measures. We can and will do it again. Let’s start with the elimination of the Bush Tax Cuts, which have produced no jobs and have cost us upwards of a trillion dollars …
