A Deal in Greece.. Announced Minutes Ago.. and US Jobs Report Soars

A deal has been reached in Greece.. no details yet, but ECB President Draghi stated that he just received a call from the Greek Prime Minister informing him that a deal with political leaders had been reached.

Within minutes the US employment figures were released showing that jobless claims dropped by 15,000 to a seasonally adjusted 358,000 in the week ended Feb. 4, the Labor Department said. That’s near a four-year low. Economists were projecting a rise to 370,000. This weekly report, supports the data release in an monthly report last week in the US. This is great news for the economy and we should see the dollar gain strenght immediately.

It will be a battle of wills today between the strenght and energy of the dollar to the euro.

The pair are currently trading at 1.3288 with the euro falling from the high of 1.3313.

The FT reported on its eurozone crisis blog that an official in the prime minister’s office said: “There’s an agreement, Mr. Papademos has met with Mr. Samaras and it’s done. There will be a statement shortly.” Antonis Samaras is leader of the conservative New Democracy party.
