Generally, my holistic view of life and the happenings within that frame is optimistic. It still is, even though I have recently discussed my emotional issues around folks I care about getting cancer. One reason I remain optimistic is that I genuinely believe that despite all the seeming negativity out there, a true streak of positive flows through all of us. Case in point is the email below. It is one of many I have received since my “release” ten days ago.
All the emails I have received are thoughtful and caring in my eyes, as is the one below; however the one below also demonstrates that above mentioned positive streak in two ways. The first is the hope it presents for those afflicted and those who stand by those afflicted. One should never, ever, underestimate the power of belief, the power of a positive mind. Straight from the horse’s mouth, it is possible to win in this dreaded fight.
I just read your posting called “Take a Moment and Push”. Cancer has been in my life since 1983 I have survived 2 bouts of cancer and have been cancer free since 1993. There is always hope for cancer patients and when you become a survivor there is daily prayer. My prayers are with you and those you care about.
Oh, but there is more. The writer does not know me, nor I her, but when she added the second part (see below), it seemed she somehow understood something about me and what I do, as the second part clearly is an appropriate shift from dark to light, and, as well, it speaks quite clearly to a notion I talk about all the time – we are in economic recovery, and it is coming faster than the pundits who discuss such things would have us think. One reason is the positive streak that flows through people, the streak that ultimately translates to positive action.
On a happier note I accept your gratitude for purchasing a new vehicle. On July 22 we purchased a new Corvette that we love. Since GM is going to be offering an IPO, we have decided to support them and Ford by purchasing stock – hope springs eternal.
The writer is referring to an article I wrote using the auto industry recovery as an example of our burgeoning economic recovery. In so few, wonderful, words, she concretely captured the essence of my thinking. I could hardly do a better job in the abstract. Her first hand, concrete experiences on both topics clearly demonstrate and affirm my hopes and my beliefs.
Thank you for taking the time to spread some bright light on the darkly emotional issue of cancer, and thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully and specifically demonstrate that the world is not coming to an end; quite the opposite in fact, as long as good folks such as you inhabit this planet.
So, folks, keep on pushing …
