Are you in the market for a full time job and enjoy working outdoors? Do you know that there was a job that employers posted 1,160 openings for from January to June of this year? Employers have a hard time filling these jobs despite the large amount of openings. The average worker’s pay is $10 and up. According to the Associated Press, only 233 applicants applied for this job. So, what is this job?

The job that is in high demand is that of a farm worker. Western and Southwestern states are looking for farm workers to harvest fruits and vegetables. Agricultural workers are in great demand in the United States and the demand is only expected to increase over the next few years. As populations continue to rise, food production will have to rise as well. Employers in the farming industry cannot find enough domestic workers that are willing to perform this type of labor. To meet the growing demand, companies have turned to hiring illegal immigrants.

Individuals looking for employment in the agricultural industry will not find these jobs listed via traditional places. The jobs are not often advertised on major job boards like CareerBuilder and Monster. Most applicants hear about these openings by word of mouth or through local media.

It looks as if a shift is taking place and that demand is rising for manual labor jobs while drying up for service oriented jobs.
