Housing Starts in March increased by 1.6% to an annual pace of 626,000, beating the expected decrease to 605,000, from the revised figure of 616,000 in February (originally reported at 575,000). Over the year the figure has increased by 20.2% from the March 2009 rate of 521,000. Building Permits increased by 7.5%, over the month to 685,000, beating the expected decrease to 620,000, following 637,000 permits annualized in February (originally reported at 612,000). Over the year, Building Permits increased by 34.1% from the 511,000 pace in March 2009.
