The Consumer Confidence Index increased to 53.5 (1985=100) in July after decreasing to 51 in July from 54.3 in June. This is the first such increase after two consecutive monthly declines. The index was expected to decrease with the consensus at 50.7. The Present Situation Index decreased to 24.9 from 26.4 last month. The Expectations Index increased to 72.5 from 67.5 in June. Consumers concerns about current market conditions were less favorable though the short-term outlook, which was pessimistic In July improved.
