The “Chart of the Day” is Alcatel Lucent (ALU), which showed up on Friday’s list of stocks that had a new “Buy” signal from the Barchart daily “Trendspotter(tm)” trading system. ALU rallied sharply by 15% and posted a new 2-3/4 month high. ALU on Friday before the open reported Q2 EPS at a loss of 10 cents, which was weaker than the analyst consensus for a 6 cent loss. Q2 revenue was 3.8 billion euros, which was up 17.4% y/y. However, the stock rallied on news that ALU was one of three domain equipment suppliers chosen by AT&T for a major multi-year project for building out AT&T’s IP network. The other suppliers chosen were Cisco (CSCO) and Juniper Networks (JNPR). With a market cap of $5.9 billion, Paris-based Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data communications solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide.
