BorgWarner Inc. (BWA) has announced that it has started supplying its latest B-series generation turbochargers to DEUTZ for its newly launched 6.1-liter six-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine.

DEUTZ is one of the largest independent manufacturers of diesel engines. It has started producing its 6.1 L6 version from January 2011 and is expected to deliver it to a wide range of customers, particularly in the agricultural machinery domain.

The use of the BorgWarner advanced turbochargers in the DEUTZ diesel engine is expected to fulfill the latter’s high requirements for power, torque and reduced emissions. The BorgWarner engineers have combined the advanced turbocharging technology with the common-rail high-pressure injection in order to provide a rated power of 203 kW at 2100 rpm and an impressive torque of 1170 Nm at 1450 rpm.

According to the company, the new engine improves power output by 13% along with a 10% raise in torque in comparison with its earlier versions.

In addition, the turbocharger is well-equipped with a milled aluminum wheel and a modified turbine housing to withstand high vibrational loading. Moreover, the system has been optimized in accordance with the stringent Tier 4 Interim emission standard, thereby facilitating economical fuel consumption.

BorgWarner is considered a leading manufacturer of powertrain products for the world’s major automakers, including Ford Motor Co. (F), Toyota Motor Corp. (TM), Nissan Motor Co. Ltd (NSANY), General Motors Company (Hyundai Motor Co. (HYMTF), Daimler AG, Chrysler, Fiat, BMW and Honda Motor Co. Ltd (HMC).

The company has a long-standing experience in the field of turbocharging systems, serving numerous customers in 18 countries worldwide. The company’s engine segment comprising turbochargers, chains, and emission and thermal systems generates more than 70% of its total revenue.
