CareFusionCorporation (CFN), a medical device company with global operations, recently launched the EnVe ventilator, which is a critical care ventilator weighing just 9.5 pounds. The EnVe is about 70 pounds to 80 pounds lighter than other ventilators performing typical functions.
CareFusion earlier introduced the EnVe, in October 2009, in a partial release and completed a user preference evaluation at a limited number of U.S. hospitals over the course of one year. The EnVe system is now officially available in the U.S. and CareFusion plans to launch it in Europe during 2011. According to one hospital, the EnVe ventilator is expected to provide noticeable cost savings by reducing the need for different ventilators for transporting patients.
The EnVe has the capacity to help both non-invasive or mask-ventilated patients as well as the most critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (“ICU”) setting. The EnVe system’s miniature design permits patients to be comfortably transported both inside the hospital and even in environments outside the clinic. Since the patient can remain on the ventilator, the medical practitioner does not need to disengage the breathing circuit, which helps cut down his/her probability for infection. In addition, the ventilator may be stored in a cabinet instead of on a ventilator stand, thereby freeing up space in hospitals.
The EnVe ventilator is based on the patented ActivCore technology, which is the foundation for its useful and portable design. The ActivCore gas delivery system uses blower technology to provide high-end critical care ventilation and freedom from wall air systems. Finally, the ActivCore technology includes a four-hour battery for extended patient transport ability.
CareFusion is dedicated to facilitate hospitals measurably improve safety and quality of care for patients. It offers products in the areas of surgical instruments, respiratory care, IV infusion, medication and supply dispensing as well as infection prevention. CareFusion’s products include Alaris IV pumps as well as the Pyxis automated dispensing and patient identification system. The company competes with Baxter International (BAX) and Becton, Dickinson and Company (BDX) among others.
