I hope I find you all in good spirits and health. It’s been almost 7 years since my best friend, Steven Perez, was taken from us after a 6 week battle with Leukemia. Steven never reached the age of 30, and after his passing I’ve been doing everything I can to raise awareness of this terrible disease so that one day we may find a cure. Through fundraisers, I’ve raised thousands of dollars to provide individuals suffering from Leukemia and their families with much needed resources and support.
Last year 15 of my colleagues from T3live.com decided to join me and raise funds for this noble cause. With their help, we managed to raise over $50,000 – even in a tough economic environment.
Nine months ago my life took another impairing blow as my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I personally witnessed her undergo debilitating chemotherapy for months as she fought for her life. Following the chemotherapy she had to undergo radiation treatment everyday in order to ensure that the disease was kept under control. These moments were some of the most upsetting and difficult times of my life as I witnessed my own mother struggle against cancer.
My mother is now thankfully on the road to recovery. She has always been an inspirational figure and a role model to me, always exuding exceptional strength and charisma under any circumstance. My mom has always been a pillar of strength in my life, someone whom I could rely on for support and unconditional love.
Now I will try to honor the warrior within her by receiving certification to be both a coach and participant in the NYC marathon in collaboration with the American Cancer Society. The economy is still tough for everyone, and all charities have been adversely affected. We all need to lend a helping hand to these charities so that together we can find a cure for cancer and help improve the lives of all of the individuals and the family members of those who suffer from this terrible disease.
