• Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) reported fiscal first quarter earnings of 30 cents a share excluding items, but disappointing quarterly software sales. Sales declined 5% to $5.05 billion, off Zacks estimates of $5.25 billion; the company said it sees second quarter earnings of 35 cents to 36 cents a share ex-items on revenues of $5.60 billion to $5.77 billion

• Pier 1 Imports (NYSE:PIR) reported a second quarter loss of 17 cents a share, versus Zacks estimates of a 22 cents per share loss, as revenues fell 11% to $287 million, versus Zacks estimates of $282 million

• Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) cut Kroger (NYSE:KR) shares to “equalweight”

• Citigroup (NYSE:C) raised Nucor (NYSE:NUE) shares to “buy”

• Corporate results are due from FedEx (NYSE:FDX) and Discover Financial (NYSE:DFS)
