The Consumer Confidence Index decreased to 52.5 (1985=100) in December after increasing to 54.3 in November from 49.9 in October. The index was expected to increase with the consensus at 56.5. The Present Situation Index decreased to 23.5 from 25.4 last month. The Expectations Index decreased to 71.9 from 73.6 in November. Consumer opinion about current market conditions was virtually unchanged from last month except for the short term outlook which worsened.
