Dell Inc. (DELL) recently announced that its latest innovation will make work easier for law enforcing agencies and forensics experts. Its Mobile Digital Forensic solution, which is based on its flagship Digital Forensics solution, will facilitate easy access and collection of digital evidence through a quick analysis of forensic reports.

The new solution will add a mobile facility that will enable automatic and secure data examination at the place of crime. The mobile solution will perform better with Dell’s Latitude E6400 XFR rugged laptop, which has been designed for use in the roughest atmosphere and is equipped with SPEKTOR Forensic Intelligence software from Evidence Talks, one of the UK’s digital forensic and intelligence gathering firms. The solution would reduce processing time for onsite investigation via any digital storage device, thereby reducing costs.

Dell’s original Digital Forensic solution is a suite of hardware, storage, software and services, which was designed to simplify the process of handling seized data, thereby increasing the productivity of digital forensic experts and ultimately improving success rates for solving a case. The solution has been developed with support from AccessData, EMC Corp. (EMC), Intel Corp. (INTC), Oracle Corp. (ORCL), Symantec Inc. (SYMC), VEGA and others.

Phones, computers and other electronic devices are an inseparable part of criminal life. These give rise to the need for digital forensic analysis to ensure that all evidence relevant to a case is collected. Dell is working together with police forces, security agencies, Systems Integrators and specialist solution providers to simplify complexities involved with current handling and processing of suspect data and information.

Dell’s new solution will go hand-in-hand with the investigation activities of the state and local police and federal intelligence units. We believe that the emerging threats from increasing digital crime will force state and local governments to deploy Digital Forensic solutions, thereby fueling demand for Dell’s innovation.

We are positive on Dell’s future prospects given its vested interests in exploring new avenues for growth. The company’s recent endeavor to tap the Indian market with the launch of two handsets based on the Google Inc. (GOOG) Android 2.1 OS is also encouraging. Dell also intends to increase headcount in the region, in line with its plans of generating total annual revenue of $2.0 billion.

However, stiff competition from technology majors, such as Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ), Apple Inc. (AAPL), International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) will always remain a factor to consider before investing in Dell.

Dell Inc. has a Zacks #1 Rank, implying a short-term Strong Buy recommendation.
