Bulleit Whiskey, owned by Diageo Plc. (DEO), has added another variety of whiskey to their portfolio. The whiskey veteran had been engaged in preparing Bulleit Bourbon loaded with rye grain bourbons for the past 150 years, but of late its has added a new variety called Bulleit Rye. This new introduction is expected to have the highest percentage of American rye among the whiskeys available in the U.S.

Bulleit Rye is available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $27.99 for a 750 ml bottle. The original Bulleit Bourbon was made with the unusually high rye content of 28%. Bulleit said that the formula was based on a recipe passed down to him by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit from the 19th century.

With its introduction of Bulleit Rye Whiskey, Bulleit will be increasing its rye content by 95% and 5% of malted barley.  The utmost care and precision is taken to produce Bulleit Rye, from selecting the highest quality rye grains, to sourcing water from an ancient glacier aquifer that maintains a consistent temperature of 56 degrees.  The liquid is then fully aged and fermented in new charred oak barrels for a minimum of 4 years.

Connoisseurs of spirit opine that the golden amber spirit has aromas of oak, dark fruits and mellow vanilla. Moreover, at 90 proof, Bulleit Rye is still very smooth on the palate with no discernable burn in the mouth other than the peppery spice.

The Bulleit brand is owned by Diageo, and it is produced at the Kirin Brewing Company Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. While being bottled the whiskey consists of 45% alcohol by volume (abv) (90 proof) for US customers and 40% abv for the UK and Australia markets.

It is also sold in Germany. The Bulleit brand, originally founded by Augustus Bulleit in 1830, was bought by Seagram in 1997. While various Seagram’s assets were being disposed of, the Bulleit brand was bought by Diageo.

Diageo offers more than 100 Scotch, Irish, Canadian and American whiskies. The London based spirit producer also owns the number four blended scotch whisky in the world – the iconic J&B and the award winning Talisker Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Isle of Skye.

Diageo which faces stiff competition from Constellation Brands Inc. (STZ) maintains a Neutral rating in the long term. Further, Diageo holds a Zacks #3 Rank, which translates into a short-term Hold rating.
