The EUR/CHF is trading at 1.2012 as the euro was able to gain a bit in today’s session. The EURCHF is unchanged as the SNB’s 1.20 floor remains credible, but increasingly expensive to defend. Reserve data shows a large CHF66.2bn build month-over-month, bringing total reserves to CHF303.8bn. Accordingly, the floor proves an expensive policy tool in the short run; however in the eyes of central banks the long run is what matters. As reserves are built they are broadly diversified, giving currencies like CAD a lift.
