Update: We Won! Britannia completed an amazing season by defeating a team that has had their number all year. They scored the first bucket of the game and never relinquished that lead for the entire game. What is amazing about today’s win is they kept Yorkhouse to just 4 points in the first quarter, and this is the same team that beat them by 40 their first meeting of the year.
Congrats to all the girls…Final: 81-71
The following is a motivational speech by Al Pacino from the film Any Given Sunday. Today at 4pm my daughter’s basketball team, Britannia Bruins, play for the #1 seed, currently held by the Yorkhouse Tigers at the Lower Mainland Tournament, which in effect will determine the #1 seed at the Provincial Playoffs next month.
What’s most interesting about this game, is the rivalry between the best public team (Bruins) & best private team (Tigers) and the different paths these two teams have taken to get where they’re at. They’ve played three times this year and each time the Tigers have won, as they are quite a dominant team…almost so much so that it begs to question just how they got so much talent on their team. I guess being a private school with a hefty tuition, it’s easy to
recruit attract some of the best talent in the province.
Both teams have a key injury and this will be the first time this year that they will have played on the Bruins home court. Regardless of the outcome today…the odds are that these two teams will meet again next month at Provincials.
