Yesterday, Harris Corp. (HRS) announced that it has won five domestic contracts for Public Safety and Professional Communications services. These are:

  • (1)   Johnson County, Iowa, has selected Harris’ VIDA (Voice, Interoperability, Data, and Access) network to design and deploy a P25IP (Project 25 to the power of IP) interoperable radio system. This new P25IPVIDA system will provide several mission-critical communications for Johnson County’s Joint Emergency Communication Center.
  • (2)   Washington Gas, one of the largest utility companies in the U.S., has decided to use Harris’ VIDA IP network to provide seamless and reliable land mobile radio communications for the company’s multi-state sites. Washington Gas supplies natural gas to over one million residential, commercial and industrial clients in Washington, Virginia and Maryland.
  • (3)   The Office of Information Technology of the state of Maine has decided to use VIDA network of Harris to deploy a hybrid Project 25 statewide digital radio system. This new system will extend and unite the state’s public safety communications.
  • (4)   The City of Aurora, IL has decided to implement IP-based 700/800 MHz OpenSky communication system of Harris. This system will provide reliable, interoperable communications between the city’s first responders and front-line emergency personnel.
  • (5)  The City of Naperville, IL has decided to implement IP-based 700/800 MHz OpenSky communication system of Harris. This system will provide reliable, interoperable communications between the city’s first responders and front-line emergency personnel.

The Public Safety and Professional Communications business of Harris develops communications systems and equipment for federal, utility, commercial and transportation markets. The company supports over 500 systems throughout the world.

We believe the newly acquired M/A-COM will generate significant synergies for Harris’ existing land mobile radio business. The global public safety market is currently going through a transition from analog, singleband, proprietary operating system enviornment to digital, multiband, open operating system enviornment.

Integration of high-end solutions of M/A-COM will enable Harris to gain a strong foothold in the $9 billion global Public Safety and Professional Communications market.
