According to a recent report released by Healthways (HWAY), The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index indicates that satisfaction at the workplace continues to fall over the past 3 years. The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which is a daily measure of American well-being, gauges 6 critical aspects of contentment, namely work environment, emotional health, physical health, life evaluation, healthy behaviors and basic access.
The Work Environment Index had declined to 48.2 in 2010, from 49.1 in the preceding year, and 50.9 still earlier in 2008 disclosing rising discontentment with the work environment including factors such as trust, job satisfaction and vertical workplace relationship.
In line with a difficult work situation, access to basic requisites, such as medical attention, continued to be low. The Basic Access Index correspondingly declined to 82.3 in 2010 from 83.6 in 2008 but was slightly better than 82.1 in 2009.
According to Healthways, the Well-Being Index may be considered to be a gauge of the actual national condition over the past 3 years. It reflects unemployment rates as well as the perceived burden of those who are employed. Further, it is important to achieve gains in the Work Environment Index in order to boost productivity, pare healthcare costs and achieve growth in GNP.
The Work Environment Index was the highest in South Dakota, followed by Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota, in declining order of well-being. Hawaii was numero uno, in terms of well-being in 2010, and achieved highest scores in emotional health, physical health and life evaluation. The other top-10 well-being states were North Dakota, Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, Connecticut and Nebraska.
Gallup and Healthways carried out over 352,480 surveys during the January to December 2010 timeframe. The two entities have gathered over 1.1 million surveys since its inception in January 2008, which makes the Well-Being Index the largest database concerning behavioral economics and holistic welfare. The index is computed on a scale ranging from 0 to 100, with a score of 100 representing perfect well-being.
