Anytime in the last fifteen years, I could not have imagined that in 2009, I would use the words “floor” and “vibrant” in the same sentence. 

However, as you can see from the background in my interview, the floor is alive and well. 

Of course, the real activity that you see is in options, not futures.Futures have moved to the electronic screen.Options, because of the complex nature of many option orders, still trade on the floor with locals and proprietary traders taking the other side of customer and institutional orders.

Some day the option orders will move to the electronic screen, but, until then, the floor will be in a word, vibrant.
