The markets are holding flat today. Volume is on pace to be along the lightest of the year as the markets digest solid earnings, economic news and most importantly, the Dollars recent fall. The G20 meeting this weekend seems to be keeping traders on the sidelines.
Financial stocks are lagging today as foreclosure fears linger. Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) is trading at $157.55, -1.75 (-1.10%) while JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) is trading at $37.53, -0.17 (-0.45%). Over the next few weeks, more will be heard from the financial firms in regards to how bad this foreclosure mess is. Some think it is a minor event while others think the losses due to derivatives could be massive, in the trillions of Dollars range.
Technology stocks are mixed today. Key earnings plays like Baidu.com, Inc. (ADR) (BIDU) and Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) are trading up on slightly after better than expected earnings reports. BIDU is trading at $107.32, +4.84 (+4.72%) while AMZN is trading at $167.90, +2.93 (+1.78%). These are helping to keep the markets flat on the day with the help of extremely light volume.
