The Consumer Confidence Index increased to 52.5 (1985=100) in March after dropping to 46.4% in February from 56.5% in January. The index was expected to increase with the consensus at 52.1%. The Present Situation Index increased to 26.0 from 21.7 last month. The Expectations Index increased to 70.2 from 62.9 in February. Despite these increases, consumers continued to express concern about current market conditions and the short-term outlook continued to remain pessimistic.
