The ISM Manufacturing Index increased to 60.4 in April, following an increase to 59.6 in March from the 56.5 level in February. The index indicated growth for the 12th consecutive month in the overall economy, as well as expansion in the manufacturing sector for the ninth consecutive month.
Construction Spending increased by 0.2% to $847.3 billion during March, beating expectations that the figure would remain unchanged, after falling by 2.1% in February, revised from a decrease of 1.3%. Year over year, construction spending had declined by 12.3% from the March 2009 estimate of $966.7 billion.
