Leading Chinese medical devices maker Mindray Medical International Limited (MR) has announced that it will feature its products at the China International Medical Equipment Fair (“CMEF”), slated to be held in Shenzhen from April 16 to April 19, 2011. CMEF is the largest exhibition of medical equipment in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mindray plans to showcase more than 70 devices from its three major product segments at the CMEF. Key new products to be featured include the V series patient monitoring system, the D3 defibrillator and the A5 anesthesia system. The last named was cleared in the U.S. in February 2011. The company will also exhibit its upcoming hematology analyzer, BC-6800.
Mindray reckons the CMEF as a major platform to demonstrate its expanding portfolio or high-quality products and its sustained R&D commitment to provide clinicians with the latest technology that enhances patient care. The company aims to introduce 7-10 new products during 2011 including product expansion in patient monitoring, defibrillator, anesthesia delivery and blood analysis.
Mindray is a global Chinese medical devices company holding roughly 40% share of the Chinese healthcare market. Besides China, the company operates in North America, Europe and other Asian countries. Mindray competes with global devices manufacturers such as General Electric (GE), Philips (PHG) and Siemens (SI).
Mindray has a strong position in the low and mid segments of the medical devices market in China and is poised to benefit from the solid fundamentals of the Chinese health care sector. Its new product development initiatives, expanding international footprint (and revenues) and solid sales infrastructure remain encouraging.
Although Mindray’s strength is currently in the low and mid-end segments, the company is looking to carve a niche in the high-end markets. Moreover, the company is well positioned to benefit from the health care reforms in China. However, Mindray is exposed to intense competition-driven pricing pressure.
