General Dynamics Corp. (GD) received a $78.4 million multiple-award U.S. Navy contract, with a potential value of $204 million over five years if all options are exercised. General Dynamics is one of the four companies to win the contract awarded by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific, San Diego, California.

Under the contract, General Dynamics will study the U.S. Navy’s cyberspace systems. The contract entails inspection of science, architecture, engineering, functionality, interface and interoperability of cyberspace systems at the tactical, operational and strategic levels.

General Dynamics will use basic and applied cyberspace research, digital forensics and other engineering capabilities in the evaluation process. General Dynamics will also conduct software design and implementation as well as systems integration, test and evaluation and demonstration.

General Dynamics plans to perform the majority of the work in San Diego, California and San Antonio, Texas.

General Dynamics continues to be on track to help the Navy achieve its mission at sea and in cyber space, using the best-in-breed technologies and building unique mission-specific cyber tools for a comprehensive approach to cyber operations.

The General Dynamics team, led by General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, includes General Dynamics Information Technology and General Dynamics C4 Systems, as well as 39 other defense contractors, commercial providers and academic partners.

We maintain our Neutral recommendation on General Dynamics. The quantitative Zacks #3 Rank (short-term Hold rating) for the company indicates no clear directional pressure on the shares over the near term.
