Nissan Motor Co. has revealed that it will recall 25,024 cars sold in Japan due to a problem with their gas pedals. The Japanese automaker has realized that when released, the faulty gas pedals are returning slowly from their depressed position due to oil sticking to a component that adjusts the movement of the pedals. The recall includes Cefiro, Bluebird, Sunny, Primera and Tino models that were produced between August 1998 and August 2002.

Last month, Nissan recalled 539,864 vehicles in the U.S. to inspect brake pedal pins and fuel-gauge components on certain trucks and minivans. The brake pedal pin problem was related to a manufacturing error on the part of the supplier and affected Nissan Titan, Armada, Quest and Infiniti QX56 models manufactured between 2008 and 2010.

Another set of models had problems related to fuel gauges that incorrectly indicate the amount of fuel in the tank. This could cause a vehicle to run out of fuel before the gauge reads empty. This set included Nissan Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56 and Nissan Frontier of 2005–2008 model years as well as the Pathfinder and Xterra that were produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008.

Vehicle recalls have become the talk of the town after Toyota Motors’ (TM) recent announcement of the largest-ever global recall of 8.5 million vehicles related to problems with accelerator gas pedals and braking systems. The recall included popular models such as 2010 Prius hybrid and Toyota Camry.

However, Toyota’s sales shot up 41% to 186,863 vehicles in March fueled by a huge consumer response to big promotions, including cheap leases, zero-percent financing for 5 years and free maintenance for 2 years for return customers on most of its line-up. The automaker grabbed a market share of 17.5% during the month, up from 15.5% a year ago.

Nissan Motor has reported a 43.3% rise in sales to 95,468 vehicles in March. Its market share improved to 9% from 7.8% in the previous year.

Sales at the Nissan Division rose 44% to 85,526 units during the month. Sales of Versa went up 105.1%, Maxima 93% and Altima 26.3%. Meanwhile, sales of Infiniti vehicles shot up 37.3% to 9,942 units. The division reported the best month since August 2008, driven by the launch of the all-new 2011 M sedan.
