The Consumer Confidence Index increased to 50.2 (1985=100) in October after decreasing to 48.6 in September from 53.2 in August. The index was expected to increase with the consensus at 49.5. The Present Situation Index increased to 23.9 from 23.3 last month. The Expectations Index increased to 67.8 from 65.5 in September. Consumer opinion about current market conditions was mixed but the short term outlook improved.
