Pitney Bowes Inc. (PBI) has entered into partnership with Bibliotheca Inc to expand geographical reach and provide all library customers in the United States with the latter’s resources. Pitney Bowes aims to enhance after-sales service and technical support capabilities of Bibliotheca as well.

Bibliotheca is an innovator in radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions for libraries worldwide. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the readers.

Pitney Bowes is a leading supplier of products and services in most of its business segments. Its meter base and ability to place and finance meters in key markets contributes significantly to its revenue and profitability. However, all segments face competition from a number of companies. We believe that its long experience and reputation for product quality, as well as its sales and support service organizations are important factors in influencing customer choices with respect to its products and services.

Significant investment in research and development operations differentiates it from competitors. The company has many research and development programs that are directed toward developing new products and service offerings. As a result of these efforts, it has been awarded a number of patents for existing and planned products. However, its businesses do not depend on any one patent, any group of related patents, any one license or any group of related licenses.

Pitney Bowes has undertaken a strategic transformation process designed to create long-term flexibility to invest in future growth. It is currently completing the diagnostic phase of this project and is analyzing a wide range of opportunities for process and operational improvements in areas such as global customer interactions and product development processes.

Pitney Bowes Inc. was incorporated in the state of Delaware on April 23, 1920, as Pitney Bowes Postage Meter Company. Today, Pitney Bowes Inc. is the largest provider of mail processing equipment and integrated mail solutions in the world.

It offers a full suite of equipment, supplies, software and services for end-to-end mailstream solutions, which enable its customers to optimize the flow of physical and electronic mail, documents and packages across their operations.

We currently have an Underperform recommendation on Pitney Bowes.
